A one-hour fabulous Exploding Dots session with James Tanton, the Mathematician-at-large for the Mathematical Association of America, astounded our Years 5 and 6 Cemerlang students on 12th February at Jerudong International School (JIS).

The Maths Fun Activity brought the ‘Sarjanians’ and the rest of the participants to a wonderful and enjoyable global phenomenon in Mathematics dubbed ‘Exploding Dots’. The said activity introduced an interesting approach in teaching grade school arithmetic, the four basic operations, through a modern-day abacus, Tanton’s version with dots and boxes hence, exploding dots.

The Cemerlang students showed much interest by shouting their answers to every mathematical equation. Indeed, ‘Sarjanians’ shine wherever they are.
