This year, a Fitness Fiesta is held by SMSS for the benefit of Pengiran Muda Mahkota Al Muhtadee Billah Fund for Orphans (DANA). Moreover, it aims to promote a healthy lifestyle through exercise, right choice of food and sports activities among the school community. In collaboration with the various Fitness Studios namely Fitness Zone, Thalgo Fitness Studio and Studio Scene, SMSS encourages everyone to practice healthy lifestyle through physical activities. The said fitness studios led free fitness exercises on Fridays as conditioning activities for students and staff as a lead up to the big event on 7th March. Geared towards the culminating activity, a series of events were held in each section every Friday of February with activities like Zumba, Cardio Hip Hop, and 3 on 3 Basketball and Futsal.
Another segment of Fitness Fiesta is the Junior Kitchen Chef which introduced healthy food choices. Groups of toque-clad students from upper the primary and lower secondary students of SMSS joined the elimination round detailing healthy food preparation. In line with this, a Food Expo by Energy Kitchen, the first healthy restaurant in Brunei, was held in the primary section.
The culminating event of the Fitness Fiesta, an Aerothon (Aerobics Marathon) was held on March 7 at Jerudong Park Amphitheatre. The said occasion was graced by Awang Haji Puasa Bin Haji Jumat, Penolong Pengarah Urusan Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah and officers from Bahagian Pendidikan Swasta, Ministry of Education. The SMSS administration, teachers and staff, students together with their parents and guardians and people from the media likewise attended the event. Everyone celebrated the success of the fund raising activity as the check with the amount of $31,802.16 was presented to DANA.
The funds collected were a joint effort between the Seri Mulia Sarjana School teachers, staff, students and parents.
Prizes were also given to the winners of the sports activities and the Junior Kitchen Chef Grand Finalist.
Top collectors for each level were also given awards for diligently supporting the collection of funds for the charity.
At the Aerothon session at Jerudong Amphitheatre, there were also several healthy foodstalls and exhibitions promoting health and fitness, for all participants to browse.
We would like to thank those who in one way or another have supported this charitable cause. We extend our gratitude to our students, parents, sponsors, fitness studios and donors for making this endeavor a success. With all your efforts, kindness and generosity, the orphans in DANA will surely benefit from this cause and will be given more opportunities for their future.
Once again, Team Sarjana has galvanized our community into action on behalf of the orphans. All of us who cared for someone else’s child share the impact of giving hope to the future.
