SMSS Primary Students Take Part in ‘Cubboree’

In conjunction with the 100 years of World Cub Scouting, Brunei Darussalam Scouts Association held its 4th Brunei Darussalam Cubboree 2016 launched by the Minister of Education, Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Suyoi Bin Haji Osman at the National Scout Activity Training Centre in Gadong.

Amongst the 400 participants who are members studying at government and private schools in the country and overseas participants were 17 primary students of Seri Mulia Sarjana School along with their two scout leaders, Yachang Banung and Muhamad Hurairah Bin Haji Adi.

The theme for this year’s Cubboree was ‘Bermula Dari Kami’ (Starts With Us) and it was held from 18th until 23rd March 2016, where the participants camped for six days and five nights.  Various activities were carried out which include familiarisation of interesting cub scout skills, stimulating ‘Valley Challenge’ activities, creative art, educational visits to Royal Brunei Armed Forces and other interesting places in Brunei as well as exciting scout games among others.

The aims of this year’s Cubboree were to allow the participants to learn teamwork and put it into practice, and to imbibe the qualities of a good leader like being independent and confident. The activities provided awareness and gave opportunities for students to gain experience in applying their scouts training and learning knowledge outside the classroom.

As the 4th Brunei Darussalam Cubboree 2016 came to its closure on the morning of 23rd March, members of the cub scouts were awarded with the ‘Anugerah Lencana Pelanduk’ (Mousedeer Badge Award) and certificates of appreciation for their commitment in successfully accomplishing the activities set by the Brunei Darussalam Scouts Association.
