A Productive First Term Break For SMSS Teachers

3 cohorts of professional development were held during the first term break for SMSS teachers. The first was the BTS (Brunei Teachers Standards) training held for all teachers, facilitated by Teacher Putri M. Simanjuntak and Teacher K. Sowmiya. This professional development course provided a golden opportunity for teachers to reflect on their teaching practices and to upgrade their proficiency in constructive teaching.

Dr Stephen Whitehead, a consultant on Professional Development for international and private school owners, leaders, managers, administrators and teachers across Asia, conducted the other 2 cohorts of professional development.

To effectively meet the needs of today’s Generation Z students, 80 SMSS teachers attended a workshop on ‘High Performance Culture in 21st Century Schools’. Dr. Stephen described the qualities of a high performance school and how it overcomes culture shock and resistance which causes culture lag. He also mentioned about the culture of the students in this present generation, teachers’ responsibilities and the importance of teachers to the success of students and the school.

A selected group of 35 teachers attended a workshop conducted by Dr Stephen Whitehead on “Coaching, Mentoring and Training for Performance”.

It was a busy but yet fruitful time for all teachers during the first term break.
