SMSS Preschool and Primary Section Welcomes Sparkle Tots Singapore

SMSS warmly welcomed 10 teachers and staff of Sparkle Tots Preschool Singapore last 3rd – 4th July. This visit aimed to build collaboration among teachers and share the teaching approaches and strategies in Bahasa Melayu.

The President of the Primary Student Council, Dinie Danish Bin Ajamain, welcomed the visitors followed by classroom immersion and observation activities. After experiencing the making of local delicacy, ‘ambuyat’, the group continued with reading (‘bacaan’) workshop spearheaded by the lower primary ‘Bahasa Melayu’ teachers. The event continued the next day at the Preschool Section with a brief opening programme wherein three selected K3 students delivered a speech in three different languages. The speech in Bahasa Melayu was recited by Wanika Ngui Teck Xan, the English speech by Nur Ameera Qistina Zafirah Binti Haji Hady Ahmady, and the speech in Mandarin by Nor Khairina Darwisyah Binti Kamaluddin.

After the programme, the guests were introduced and shown video footages of K1-K3 IEYC International Early Years Curriculum learning journeys throughout the year by the Acting Principal Putri M. Simanjuntak assisted by the deputy Cecilia T. Landingin. The visitors were then divided into three groups to observe a teaching demonstration in Bahasa Melayu in each level that involved very engaging activities about shapes, animals, and reading aligned to the IEYC unit themes. A workshop about lesson planning, preparing a scheme of work, and making a variety of teaching aids created a productive afternoon for all teachers involved. Questions and feedbacks about the session were also received towards the end of the activity.
