SMSS School Wins the Championship and 3rd Runner-up Awards in the 7th Private Secondary Schools’ English Language Oratory Competition

31st of August was a remarkable day for Ryan Anju Mathew, as he impressed the judges with his articulation and fluency in the 7th Private Secondary Schools’ English Language Oratory Competition in his speech, ‘Recycling: Have We Done Enough?’.

Out of 23 students from different private secondary schools in Brunei Darussalam, he emerged victorious in achieving the Championship award receiving $300 cash prize, a certificate and a trophy, along with a challenge trophy, donated by Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong, the Minister of Home Affairs. Prizes were presented by Ahmad Jefri bin Abdul Rahman, a member of the Board of Directors at Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah (YSHHB), which hosted the competition.

A total of 11 private schools comprising 23 students from Years 7-8 joined the competition with this year’s theme centred on ‘Environmental Challenges for the Youth of Today’.

Both SMSS representatives and winners, Ryan Anju and Awangku Khairyl were trained in the preliminary and final rounds by Teacher Toni Therese Banzuela Bernardo.
