SM Sarjana School Students at GYCI Global Youth Conference

Four students from Seri Mulia Sarjana School’s Secondary Section were awarded the prestigious Humanities International Scholarships Awards by the founder of GYCI Global Youth Congress International, Anselm Chu to attend the 5th ASEAN Youth Convention in Singapore from 19th to 25th June.

The conference seeks to empower ASEAN youths in regional advocacy through active education and participation, provide networking platform for the forging of strong bonds between youths across the borders and to explore the ASEAN identity with an understanding of interdependence and commonalities.

The ASEAN Youth Convention provides them with a viable platform for the expression and exchange of ideas, discussion of issues, and the creation of new bonds of friendship with other young people throughout the region. The convention allows youths to give some serious thought to the issues and challenges facing ASEAN in the past, in the present, and in the future.   They are to consider and understand the dilemmas faced by ASEAN in its constant struggle not to undermine the ASEAN Way, and to take into account the diverse backgrounds of the region’s countries.

The SMSS team set up a booth featuring our beloved country Brunei and performed a traditional Brunei dance for the youth from the South East Asian Nations as well as China, Japan and South Korea for both Junior and Senior Level programmes. Participants were engaged in sharing their knowledge and experiences through workshops, forum and other activities with the theme “Re-making the ASEAN Way”.  The SMSS team is accompanied by teacher Sandhya Chandran during the conference at the Victoria School, Singapore.
