Deafening chants and cheers rolled around the ballroom of the Wafa Hotel when the musically gifted students and teachers shook their nerves off in interpreting Chinese contest pieces in the recently concluded ‘Voice of Sarjana’ held on Friday, 12th July 2019.

Afiq Khazmiezul Bin Ramdani’s rendition brought him to instant stardom when he bested over five contenders in the Non – Chinese Teachers Category. Meanwhile, Su Qiuncy emerged champion in the Lower Primary Category. Gurleen and Chew Ying championed the Upper Primary and Secondary Categories respectively.

The event that garnered participation from across the Sarjana Campuses, was graced by the Chief Executive Officer of Sarjana Education Group, (Dr) Mary Lim. Dubbed as the first ever Mandarin singing competition, it unfolded not just the ‘Sarjanians’ love for music but also their gift of melodious voices, hidden talents and versatility in Mandarin language.

In the final showdown, the judges, composed of Danny Tay, General Manager, SGA Media & Marketing,  Deon Ong of Yippee Tunes Music School, Huang Mei Ting from RTB and Maria Grace Koh, a local singer, were on the look for voice quality, pronunciation and diction, tempo, stage presence, costume as well as audience impact as the criteria for judging.

A round of applause to the winners and the contestants for conquering stage frights in order to show their talents and to entertain the audience. Indeed, every ‘Sarjanian’ has a shining moment.
